Chapter 4 – Stress & The Assault Cycle
In the previous three chapters your focus has been on developing and honing your skills as a professional. In this section, you will begin to look at the shifting patterns of client behavior.
Chapter 4 introduces the assault cycle and investigates the impact of stress in triggering a cyclical pattern of behavior.
The goal of this chapter is to use the observational strategies you discussed and developed in Chapter 3 to recognize client movement away from baseline. Then, continuing to use your observational skills, you will accurately identify a client’s position on the assault cycle as indicated by the specific behaviors observed.
Just a reminder! As you work through each chapter, be sure to keep your Reflection Worksheet up to date, answering each set of chapter questions as you go.
