Chapter 1 – Purpose

Chapter 1 addresses the purpose of your organization, whether you work in a school, hospital, residential center, or other treatment environment, as well as the role of your organization plays in providing care, encouraging growth, and empowering change.

Here you will learn that while some people may use physically injurious behaviors to meet their needs, it is possible to introduce effective non-violent alternatives to do the same thing. The introduction of alternatives to violence confirms that assaultive behavior can be replaced with safe behavior.

Be sure to have your Reflection Worksheet ready when you begin this chapter. As you near the end of this section you will be asked, for the first time, to complete questions in your Reflection Worksheet.
